WHAT TO EXPECT

The ASHEVILLE GRASS OPEN is the newest grass volleyball tournament in North Carolina, featuring divisions for adult and youth players. Held in the newly renovated Asheville Tourists Stadium, the Houston Astros’ single-A affiliate team.

This event is an opportunity for players of all levels from NC and the surrounding tri-state area to compete. The inaugural tournament will be hosted in downtown Asheville and is the perfect weekend for high-level volleyball looking to have fun, explore Beer City, USA, and check out the Blue Ridge Mountains!

• FRIDAY, OCT. 2: 4X4 CO-ED REVCO BEGINNING AT 3:00 PM

• SATURDAY, OCT. 3: 4X4 CO-ED YOUTH (9:00 AM) & ADULT (3:00 PM)

• SUNDAY, OCT. 4: 3X3 SAME SEX YOUTH (9:00 AM) & ADULT (3:00 PM)

*ALL CO-ED TEAMS MUST HAVE AN EQUAL NUMBER OF MALES AND FEMALES, NO EXCEPTIONS.

MATCH FORMATS

  • ADULT DIVISIONS: OPEN, AA, A, BB, B

    • CASH & PRIZES AVAILABLE FOR EACH DIVISION VARY BY THE QUANTITY OF TEAMS PER BRACKET

  • YOUTH DIVISIONS: U18, U16, U14, U12

    • YOUTH DIVISION WINNERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE CASH, BUT WILL RECEIVE GIFT CARDS FOR LOCAL ASHEVILLE BUSINESSES.

  • REGISTERED TEAMS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO 4 TEAM POOLS FEATURING (2) SETS TO 21, CAP OF 25. AFTER POOL PLAY, TEAMS WILL COMPETE IN A PLAYOFF BRACKET.

    • DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF THE TEAMS IN EACH BRACKET, THERE MAY BE A UPPER AND CONSOLATION BRACKETS FOR TIME PURPOSES. ALL TEAMS WILL HAVE A PLAYOFF MATCH OPPORTUNITY, BUT ONLY THE UPPER BRACKETS WILL RECEIVE A PRIZE/CASH.

  • NATURAL GRASS ALLOWS FOR 16-20 BIG COURTS WITH AT LEAST 8-12 FEET SPACING

  • PARKING IS AVAILABLE BELOW THE FIELD AND ALONG THE RIGHT FIELD LINE

  • TENTS ARE ALLOWED ON THE WARNING TRACK OF THE OUTFIELD, BUT METAL SPIKES ARE NOT. GUESTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING WEIGHTS.

  • COOLERS ARE LIMITED TO BACKPACK SIZE AND SMALLER. NO ROLLING COOLERS ARE PERMITTED INSIDE THE EVENT.

FAQS

  • You may bring small snacks and food items and non-alcoholic beverages. Outside alcohol and bigger meals (ordering pizza to the field, etc.) are not permitted.

  • We love our furry friends, but it’s best to leave them at home for this event.

  • No, you do not. It’s good to have an AVP membership to compete in multiple tournaments, but it's not a requirement for this event.

  • The TLDR is money. You save more by registering early.

  • Teams can get a 100% refund if the request is submitted by September 27th. From September 28th - October 1st, teams can receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given on or after October 2nd.

  • Yes, but you will have to pay the full team price at checkout.

  • This is a rain-or-shine event. Play will continue as the weather permits.

    In the event of lightning or weather-related poor conditions, all guests will be instructed to exit the facility or take shelter.

    If the event is canceled due to weather concerns, refunds will be issued in full for sessions not played and in part for sessions already started.

  • If you are playing on Saturday and want to attend Friday or Sunday, you will still have to pay for a spectator fee. Your player registration is only applicable for admission on the day of your session.
